Remix of Identity is a music project of the Metamedia association, implemented within the MMLab project and music community studio Metamusic – creative laboratories of the Rojc Community Centre, with the purpose of providing conditions for music production to local artists. The project seeks to establish a dialogue between traditional and contemporary music, and explores the possibilities of communication between societies, cultures, traditions, historical periods and movements through contemporary music, remixing traditional with contemporary music. The dialogue between contemporary music genres and traditional songs of Istria was the theme and task of this year’s edition of the project.

What makes Remix of Identity 6 special is the dynamics of the project. Namely, due to the impossibility of organizing the usual theoretical and practical workshops and studio work live, the association Metamedij decided to change the format and announced a public tender for music remixing.

After the application, all those interested received samples created at previous Remix of Identity workshops, namely the songs “Kapitane mili“, “Jena kopa visoka” and “Daj mi mala” performed by Noel Šuran and Zoran Karlić. The task of the applicants was to reinterpret traditional music in the most creative and experimental way possible.

An expert jury consisting of Matko Šašek – Koolade, Milan Đurić, Noel Šuran and Marino Jurcan selected the two best works that were awarded, and a wider selection of the best works was published on this joint album. Šašek (Koolade), Đurić (Neki Stranac) and Jurcan (Morski) also contributed to this release with their remixes of traditional Istrian music.
